The most important film ever made about Ethiopian Jews was - without question - Falasha: Exile of the Black Jews. Made in 1983 by filmmaker Simcha Jacobovici, Falasha: Exile of the Black Jews was immediately banned in Israel as a dangerous anti-Israel piece of propoganda. The movie questions why, when Jews are dying in Sudan and Ethiopia, the Israel government claimed it was unable to do anything - even though American activists had safely brought Ethiopian Jews out of Sudan and Ethiopia.

Falasha: Exile of the Black Jews was the first film made by Simcha Jacobovici. Although the making of the film was supported by AAEJ and CAEJ, Simcha went into debt to make this documentary because of the urgency of the situation for Jews in Sudan and Ethiopia. Simcha Jacobovici went on to become a celebrated filmmaker of documentary films that have been shown the world over.
